Shostakovich Cello Sonata in D minor, Op. 40: Fourth Movement – Musings with Inbal Segev

Hello Cellists,

The fourth movement of Shostakovich’s Sonata has a sarcastic, demonic humor that you can bring out at 184 bpm 176 bpm or even a bit slower. Be sure to watch the whole video to hear me tell the famous story of what supposedly inspired Shostakovich to write parts of this movement. Tiny spoiler: it involves the cellist mimicking a trombonist practicing in a Moscow conservatory stairwell.

Please let me know if you have any comments and/or questions, I would love to hear from you. Thank you for watching!!
