Militaristic Motifs in Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No. 5 – Musings with Inbal Segev

Hello Cellists,

Today’s masterclass is on the first movement from Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No. 5, composed just a few months after the battle of Waterloo. It’s full of drum rolls, trumpet fanfares, and other militaristic motifs that perhaps conjure Beethoven’s memories of war.

Please let me know if you have any comments and/or questions, I would love to hear from you. Thank you for watching!!
