One of my favorite sonatas is Chopin’s Cello and Piano Sonata, Op. 65. It is one of Chopin’s rare works where the piano is not the only solo instrument. Join me as I discuss the ballad-like first movement and each of its four themes, which lend themselves so beautifully to the cello.
Listen to the opening of Schubert’s “Gute Nacht” from Winterreise and see if you can find parallels with the beginning of our sonata.
Please let me know if you have any comments and/or questions, I would love to hear from you. Thank you for watching!!
